Privacy Policy — Mount Valley Public School App

This app ("the App") is the official school-management application of Mount Valley Public School, Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, India ("we", "us", "the School"). It is used by the School's administrators, teachers, parents, and bus drivers. This policy explains what information the App collects, why, and how it is handled.

1. Information we collect

• Account & profile data — name, username, email, phone number, role, and the profile photo you choose to upload. Student records (name, class, attendance, marks, fees) are entered by School staff, not by students.
• Location (bus drivers only) — when a driver starts a trip, the App collects this device's GPS location to show the bus's live position to the School and to the parents of students on that route. Location is collected only while a trip is active (an ongoing notification is shown) and stops when the driver ends the trip. The App does not collect location in the background outside of an active trip, and does not track parents, teachers, or students.
• Photos / camera — used to capture profile photos and to upload payment-proof screenshots/images. Images are only accessed when you choose to add one.
• Payment information — fee invoices and the payment-reference / proof images you submit. The App does not process card or bank payments; it records payments made offline (cash/UPI/bank transfer).
• Device & notification data — a Firebase Cloud Messaging token to deliver push notifications, and basic diagnostic data needed to run the service.

2. How we use information

• To operate core school features: attendance, homework, exams, fees, announcements, timetables, and communication between staff and parents.
• To show live school-bus location to authorised parents and staff during trips.
• To send notifications relevant to your role (e.g. fee reminders, attendance alerts).
• To secure accounts and prevent misuse.

3. How information is shared

We do not sell personal data or use it for advertising. Data is shared only:

• Within the School community on a need-to-know basis (e.g. a parent sees their own child's data; bus location is shared with parents on that route).
• With Google Firebase (Cloud Messaging) to deliver push notifications. See Google's privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
• Where required by law.

4. Data security & storage

Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and stored on the School's secured server. Access is restricted by role-based authentication.

5. Data retention & deletion

We retain data for as long as the account is active or as required for school records. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us at the address below; student-record deletion is subject to applicable education record-keeping requirements.

6. Children's data

The App is intended for use by adults (school staff and parents). Student information is entered and managed by the School as part of its educational record-keeping. The App is not directed to children for independent sign-up.

7. Permissions summary

• Location — bus tracking during active trips (drivers only).
• Camera — profile photos and payment-proof images.
• Notifications — school alerts and reminders.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy and will revise the effective date above.
